Can any “monk fruit decoction” be sold in the EU?
NO. Only monk fruit decoctions which comply with the specification submitted to FSAI by Monk Fruit Corp may be sold in the EU. The specification itself is confidential to Monk Fruit Corp and is a Monk Fruit Corp trade secret. This means that Monk Fruit Corp is the only monk fruit supplier that can guarantee compliance with the specification submitted and is therefore the only monk fruit supplier that can guarantee their product complies with the FSSAI “not-novel” opinion.
Additional note: Monk Fruit Corp submitted a comprehensive dossier to FSAI which included a detailed specification for the monk fruit decoctions which FSAI ruled were not novel food in the EU. The specification was based on extensive research on the composition of traditional monk fruit decoctions. Any monk fruit decoction placed on the market in the EU must comply with the specification which Monk Fruit Corp provided to FSAI.
